Poetry terms.

Sound Devices

  1. Rhyme: using the same vowel and consonant sound at the end of two words
  2. Alliteration: using the same consonant at the beginning of words
  3. Repetition: using the same word or phrase more than once


Devices
  1. Symbols: its an object, person, or idea that stands for something beyond itself.
  2. Imagery: is a descriptive detail that appeals to the sense.
  3. Figurative Language: a writing or speech that is not meant to be taken literally, you could use Similes, Metaphors, Personification, Onomatopoeia, Alliteration and Idioms.


Forms & Purposes
  1. Narrative: tells a story
  2. Ballad: a type of narrative that tells a story in a serious tone like for example in a song
  3. Lyric Poem: a very musical poem that expresses the thoughts and feelings in a song
